Change a device's state
Set a device’s state to show everyone that it is being serviced or is out of use, so that nobody mistakes a planned stop for a fault.
-
In the left navigation, open Devices and select the device.
-
Open the menu (⋮) at the top right.
-
Under Set state, select Active, Maintenance mode or Disabled. The state the device is already in is not listed.
Result: the message Device state updated successfully appears. The status on the card and in the list changes at once; there is no confirmation step.
The three states
Section titled “The three states”| State | Shown as | Use it when | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active | Online or Offline | The instrument is in normal use. | Nothing — this is the normal state. |
| Maintenance mode | Maintenance | Someone is servicing the instrument, or it is stopped on purpose for a while. | The status shows Maintenance instead of Online or Offline, Last seen is hidden, and the device moves from the Online / Offline filters to Maintenance. Data keeps arriving if the instrument sends it. Alarms on the device’s series and all its notifications are paused; see What Maintenance mode and Disabled pause. |
| Disabled | Disabled | The instrument is taken out of use, or you want to delete the record. | The status shows Disabled instead of Online or Offline, Last seen is hidden, the device moves to the Disabled filter, the card is dimmed and the router no longer links the instrument to this device record. Alarms on the device’s series and all its notifications are paused; see What Maintenance mode and Disabled pause. A device must be Disabled before you can delete it. |
Set the device back to Active when the work is done. Otherwise it keeps showing Maintenance, its alarms stay paused, and nobody sees when it really goes offline.
What Maintenance mode and Disabled pause
Section titled “What Maintenance mode and Disabled pause”While a device is in Maintenance mode or Disabled, alarms on its series are not checked; an alarm that was Alerting stays Alerting. The device sends no notifications. When it is Active again, alarms whose conditions are still met go off as usual.
